Councillors Roy Owen and Tony Y Williams jubilant with Gareth Edwards of Caernarfon Online. |

When Caernarfon Online first brought you all to the attention of the shocking state of Llanbeblig Churchyard, little did we expect that so many people would get behind us. Over the last few months Caernarfon Online has been keeping the town up to date with the latest developments at the site. |

Mayor Tudor Owen and Warden Chris Walker are over the moon that the Guards are cleaning the cemetery. |

In August we visited the churchyard to see for ourselves what kind of work needed to be done. Following our initial reports, the Mayor of Caernarfon Councillor Tudor Owen has been meeting up with Mr Malcolm Jones (Church Warden) as well as representatives of the Church and Captain Terry Harman of the Welsh Guards 1st Battalion currently based in RAF St Athan, Barry down in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Mayor said he was delighted with the outcome that the Guards had promised to clear up the grounds. Councillor Owen said that he had been very impressed with the hard work of Captain Terry Harman and for offering to help with Caernarfon's cause. The Mayor had told Caernarfon Online a few weeks ago that things were moving forward in a positive vein and we did not want to be too optimistic until the Mayor had received definite proof that everything was sorted. The Mayor received a letter to this effect this week. |

Good News! It has been agreed that the Guards will send 15 men (from the Caernarfon area) to clear the grass and debris. The work will commence on Monday November 28th and should take a week to finish. The £1,000 donated by the Town Council will be used to buy 10 strimmers for the job plus other items. We must point out however that we are still looking for volunteers to help out and help with the burning of bushes and haulage etc. We are also looking for a sponsor to provide Petrol for 10 strimmers to be used during the week. If you are a business owner and can help with this is some way, then please contact Caernarfon Online by the usual email address. Mail@CaernarfonOnline.co.uk If anybody would like to get involved with this fabulous project then contact us ASAP and we will get things moving. This news is especially warming in view of Remembrance Sunday just round the corner. CaernarfonOnline would like to thank the following people for their help in sorting out Llanbeblig, Mr Tudor Owen for meeting with the officials,Cpt Terry Harman and the 1st Battalion of the Welsh Guards, Councillor Roy Owen for his constant clearing of the site of needles etc, Councillor Tony Y Williams and the old Comrades for their meetings and concerns, Malcolm Jones Church Warden for his involvement with meetings etc. And finally - thanks to you the public for your support in this matter. When we all work together we can achieve anything! Caernarfon Online will report back at the end of the month with details of the progress. Lets hope that once it's completed then a plan can be drawn out to maintain it to a satisfactory level. |
